PALM BEACH GARDENS  — Former President Bill Clinton praised freshman Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter, this morning as an antidote to partisan dysfunction in Washington while noting President Barack Obama‘s plunging popularity and conceding that Republicans might make gains nationally in next week’s House and Senate elections.

The former president is spending Hillary Clinton‘s 67th birthday barnstorming across Florida for Democrats, telling a crowd of more than 500 here that he got an “excused absence” from his wife and will join her tonight. Clinton is also scheduled to campaign in Tallahassee this afternoon for Democrat Gwen Graham‘s congressional bid and in Tampa later in the day at a rally for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist.
